Parliament of Ukraine adopted a decision on the date of the next presidential election. They held on 17 January 2010. Around the timing of the vote has long been a severe political struggle.
In April, the Verkhovna Rada appointed election on October 25. But Yushchenko has made in the court cancel the ruling. Date approved today, is fully consistent with the Ukrainian Constitution.
According to the Constitution, the term of office of President shall be five years. Viktor Yushchenko took the post of head of state in January 2005.
